The psychiatric sectors provided for in article L. 3221-4 are called : 1° Adult psychiatric sectors when they mainly meet the mental health needs of a population aged over eighteen ; 2° Child and adolescent psychiatry sectors when they meet the mental health needs of children and adolescents; each child and adolescent psychiatry sector corresponds to a geographical area served by one or more adult psychiatry sectors; 3° Prison psychiatry…

Each health establishment mentioned in article L. 3221-1 is responsible for combating mental illness in the psychiatric sectors attached to it.

The prevention, diagnosis, care, rehabilitation and social reintegration provided for in Articles L. 3221-1 and L. 3221-4 are provided in particular : 1° In specialised services with or without full accommodation facilities, or day or night accommodation ; 2° At patients’ homes ; 3° In health, social or medico-social establishments where patients reside; 4° By temporary therapeutic stays; 5° Through information campaigns aimed at the general public and the professionals…

Each general or child psychiatry sector is placed under the authority of a hospital psychiatrist assisted by a multidisciplinary team and appointed in accordance with the procedures set out in Chapter VI of Title IV of Book I of Part VI.

In each penitentiary region, one or more prison psychiatry sectors are attached to a health establishment providing care for detainees pursuant to 2° of article L. 6111-1-2. Each of these sectors includes a regional medical-psychological service located in a prison and which may also, under an agreement with the Prefect, be responsible for combating alcoholism and drug addiction as referred to in articles L. 3311-1 and L. 3411-1. The units for difficult patients provided for in article L. 3222-3 are located in an establishment mentioned in article L. 3222-1. They are inter-regional and do not form part of the sectors defined in article R. 3221-1.

If the quantified objectives for the supply of care mentioned in 2° of the I of Article L. 1434-3 for the “care without consent” section of the psychiatric authorisation mentioned in Article R. 6122-25 are not achieved, the Director General of the Regional Health Agency shall designate, from among the establishments providing sector psychiatric care under Article L. 3221-4, those that must apply for authorisation for the “care without consent”…
