Title III: Predictive medicine, genetic identification and genetic research

The genetic counsellor works under the responsibility of a qualified doctor in genetics and by delegation from the latter. He/she works as a salaried member of a multidisciplinary team in a health establishment, in particular within the multidisciplinary centres for prenatal diagnosis mentioned in article R. 2131-12.

The genetic counsellor may, in the cases defined by the organisational protocol provided for in Article R. 1132-5-2: 1° Prescribe the medical biology examinations mentioned in Article R. 1131-2 and in 3° of I and 1° and 2° of II of Article R. 2131-1, provide the information due to the person concerned in respect of this prescription, obtain their consent to the examination being carried out and, where applicable, draw…

The implementation of the provisions of Article R. 1132-5-1 is subject to the establishment of an organisational protocol between the qualified medical practitioner in genetics and the genetic counsellor placed under his responsibility. Genetic counsellors may not engage in any other professional activity unless it is compatible with the dignity and quality required by their professional practice.
