Selective financial aid is awarded to production companies for the development of long-term film projects.
Production companies that have already produced, as delegated production companies, over the four years preceding the application, at least three French-initiative feature-length cinematographic works for which investment approval has been granted, may submit up to four projects simultaneously under a development programme.Other production companies may submit one project or two projects simultaneously, provided that they have already produced, as delegated production companies, at least one feature-length film or a significant…
Project development grants are awarded on the basis of the quality of the projects, their artistic ambition and their viability, as well as the experience and results of the production companies and their approach and commitment to project development.
A project receiving development aid may not receive script rewriting aid.Unless an exception is made, the same project may not simultaneously be the subject of an application for project development aid and an application for pre-production production aid.
The decision to award aid is taken after consultation with the Project Development Aid Committee.
The amount of aid may not exceed 50% of the costs of writing, rewriting and purchasing rights, up to a maximum of €70,000.For works in the animation genre, the amount of aid may not exceed 50% of the costs of writing, rewriting, purchasing rights and graphic design work, up to a maximum of €100,000.
When the project is eligible for the direct grants provided for in 1° of article 212-12, the application for aid is submitted by the production company with the majority shareholding in the co-development or, where the shareholdings are equal, by the production company mandated for this purpose.
The aid is granted in the form of an advance.The aid is the subject of an agreement signed with the production company on the basis of proof of expenditure.When the project goes into production, 50% of the aid is reimbursed on the first day of shooting and 50% when the project is released in cinemas.
