The doctor may object to the transport of the body before committal when the condition of the body does not allow such transport. He shall immediately notify the family and, if applicable, the director of the establishment in writing.
When the body is transported before committal outside the commune of the place of death or deposit, a copy of the declaration of transport is immediately sent, by any means, to the mayor of the commune where the body is transported.
Unless there are derogatory provisions, body transport operations prior to committal of the body of a deceased person shall be completed within a maximum period of forty-eight hours from the date of death.
When the conditions mentioned in article R. 2213-8 or R. 2213-8-1 are not fulfilled, the body may only be transported after committal and under the conditions set out in articles R. 2213-15 to R. 2213-28.
The transport of the body of a person of full age who has consented to donate their body after their death for the purposes of medical teaching and research, pursuant to article L. 1261-1 of the Public Health Code, is organised under the conditions provided for in articles R. 1261-1 to R. 1261-33 of the same code.
The transport of the body of a deceased person to a health establishment in order to take samples for therapeutic purposes shall be declared in advance, by any means in writing, to the mayor of the municipality of the place of death or deposit, at the request of the director of the health establishment where this person died or of any person who is entitled to provide for the funeral….

Without prejudice to the provisions of article R. 2213-2-1, the mayor may, if there is an emergency, taking into account the health risk or in the event of rapid decomposition of the body, after obtaining the opinion of a doctor, decide on immediate burial and closure of the coffin.
