The Marseille marine firefighters battalion is made up of a headquarters, intervention units, service and support units, training units, including the marine firefighters school, and a health and medical rescue service. An order by the Minister of Defence, issued after consultation with the Marseille city council, specifies the operational organisation and administrative procedures of the formation.

The health and medical rescue service of the Marseille marine fire brigade participates, within its area of competence, in the performance of the missions provided for in article L. 1424-2. To this end, it contributes in particular to emergency medical aid as defined by article L. 6311-1 of the public health code. Administrative or technical staff from the city of Marseille may assist with the administrative and training support tasks entrusted to the military personnel responsible for running the battalion. They are placed under the authority of the battalion commander in his capacity as director of the city of Marseille’s fire and rescue services.

The Marseilles marine firefighters battalion is authorised to provide, for the benefit of its personnel and that of other defence formations, instruction relating to the prevention and fighting of fires and perils of all kinds. As such, it is approved as a training organisation by decrees of the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Defence.
