The registrar keeps the files, directories and registers up to date. He draws up the documents, notes and minutes required by the codes. He assists the labour tribunal members at hearings. The registrar draws up a statement of the court’s activities in accordance with the frequency and model set by the Minister of Justice. This report and any observations made by the president and vice-president are sent, under cover of the heads of the court of appeal, to the Minister of Justice.

Depending on the needs of the department, the Registrar may designate, under his responsibility, one or more Registry employees to carry out some of the duties assigned to him in articles R. 1423-37 to R. 1423-42.

Where the post of registrar is vacant or where the registrar is prevented from attending or is absent, the deputy registrar acts as substitute or acting registrar. Where there are several deputies, the registrar, or if he or she is unable to do so, the president of the court, appoints one of the deputies to act as deputy or interim registrar. In carrying out the duties provided for in articles R. 1423-37 to R. 1423-42, the Registrar may be assisted by one or more deputies. The latter may manage several registry departments or supervise the activities of all or some of the staff.

Heads of registry departments are placed at the head of one or more departments. They assist the registrar in the absence of a deputy registrar.

A registrar may be placed in charge of a department when the size of the department does not justify entrusting these duties to an official belonging to the corps of directors of judicial registry services. A registrar may be entrusted with the duties of director of a court registry.

The deputies of the registrar, the heads of registry departments and the officials of the registrar corps exercise, in the assignment given to them by the registrar, the powers conferred on the latter by article R. 1423-41.

Staff belonging to category C of the civil service and, where appropriate, auxiliary and temporary staff contribute to the operation of the various registry departments.
