Title II : Civil status records

The civil registrar will, without delay, make a summary entry of the oppositions in the marriage register; he will also make a note, in the margin of the entry of the said oppositions, of the judgments or acts of release of which a copy has been given to him.

In the event of opposition, the civil registrar will not be able to celebrate the marriage until he has been given the release, on pain of a €3,000 fine and all damages.

If the publication has been made in several communes, the civil registrar of each commune shall without delay send to the one of them who is to celebrate the marriage a certificate stating that there is no opposition.

Each of the future spouses shall provide the civil registrar who is to celebrate the marriage with an extract from his or her birth record, indicating filiation, which must not be more than three months old if it was issued by a French civil registrar. The marriage will be celebrated, at the choice of the spouses, in the commune where one of them, or one of their parents, has his or her domicile or residence established by at least one month’s continuous dwelling on the date of the publication provided for by law.
