Assistants are recruited by written contract with the director of the public health establishment, on the proposal of the head of the department or, failing that, the head of the service, functional unit or any other internal structure, after obtaining the opinion of the chairman of the establishment’s medical committee.
Assistants are recruited for an initial period of either one year or two years, renewable for periods of one year, but the total period of service as an assistant may not exceed six years.
Assistants must have completed at least two years of full-time service before they can be recruited as part-time hospital assistants. An assistant who has worked full-time or part-time for six years may no longer be recruited as such by a public health establishment.
Non-renewal of a contract at the end of a recruitment period is notified with two months’ notice. Resignations are subject to the same notice period.
The assistants receive after service has been rendered: 1° Flat-rate monthly emoluments which vary according to whether they are generalists or specialists, and which vary according to seniority, the amount of which is set by order of the ministers responsible for the budget, health and social security.
