In Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, the temporary residence permit marked “employee” authorises the holder to carry out one or more paid professional activities under current legislation. It is valid for a maximum of one year. It is renewable.

Foreign nationals wishing to work as salaried employees in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon must attach to their first application for a work permit the contract or promise of employment, specifying the occupation, the salary offered and the length of the working week, stamped by the head of the labour and employment department, which they had to obtain before entering this collectivity.
Notwithstanding article R. 5523-10, foreign nationals who are legally resident in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon may be authorised to work there. They must enclose an employment contract with their application.
For seafarers, the authorisations referred to in article R. 5523-10 are issued by the maritime authority under the conditions laid down in the Maritime Labour Code.
In Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, unless they hold a resident’s permit, foreign nationals applying for a renewal of their work permit must enclose with their application an employment contract or promise of contract specifying the occupation, the salary offered and the length of the working week.
To grant or refuse the work permit applied for, the Prefect of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon will take into consideration in particular: 1° The current and future employment situation in the occupation applied for by the foreign worker; 2° The conditions under which the employer applies the regulations relating to work; 3° The conditions of employment and remuneration offered to the foreign worker, which must be identical to those enjoyed by French workers;…
Only the factors mentioned in 2° and 3° of article R. 5523-14 are taken into consideration when examining applications from refugees and stateless persons.
For the application of article R. 5411-6 to Mayotte, the words: “under 2° and 3° of article L. 341-4 of the Social Security Code” are replaced by the words: “under article 20-8-1 of order no. 96-1122 of 20 December 1996 relating to the improvement of public health, sickness, maternity, invalidity and death insurance, the financing of social security in Mayotte and the Mayotte Social Security Fund”.
