Chapter II: Organisation of hospitals and universities

Article R6142-2 of the French Public Health Code

In accordance with article L. 6142-17, the universities and the regional hospital centres jointly organise the dental care, teaching and research centres where, with due respect for patients, preparatory courses for the state diploma of doctor of dental surgery and postgraduate courses are provided and which, without prejudice to the remit of other research and teaching establishments, participate in dental research.

Article R6142-3 of the French Public Health Code

Universities, on the one hand, and regional hospital centres, on the other hand, shall, when drawing up the agreements which they conclude by virtue of articles L. 6142-3, L. 6142-7 and L. 6142-17, be required to comply with the provisions of this section. The parties concerned may include in these agreements any clauses that are not contrary to these provisions.

Article R6142-4 of the French Public Health Code

Agreements are signed : 1° For regional hospital centres, by the director general after deliberation by the board of directors ; 2° For universities and on their behalf, by the directors of the training and research units concerned. They are submitted to the university president for approval.

Article R6142-8 of the French Public Health Code

The director of the pharmacy training and research unit is authorised to propose the conditions under which certain biology courses are organised by the medical and pharmaceutical training and research units. To this end, the agreements set out the conditions under which pharmacy students may undertake placements in the biology laboratories of the university hospital centre.

Article R6142-9 of the French Public Health Code

Only those biology, functional investigations, psychiatry, radiology, follow-up and rehabilitation and long-term care departments which are not necessary for teaching and medical research may be placed entirely outside the application of this chapter. Practitioners working in these hospital departments do not participate in teaching and research tasks and are not subject to the status provided for in article L. 6151-1.

Article R6142-10 of the French Public Health Code

When, in a hospital department of a university centre, teaching and research duties are fully performed and diagnostic and care duties cannot be fully performed by members of the teaching and hospital staff, hospital practitioners who are not subject to the status provided for in article L. 6151-1 may be called upon.
