BOOK VI: LYON METROPOLITAN AREA

A community with special status is hereby created, within the meaning of article 72 of the Constitution, called the “metropolis of Lyon”, in place of the urban community of Lyon and, within the territorial limits previously recognised to the latter, the department of the Rhône.

The Lyon metropolitan area forms an area of solidarity to draw up and lead a planning and economic, ecological, educational, sporting, cultural and social development project for its territory, in order to improve its competitiveness and cohesion. It ensures the conditions for its economic, social and environmental development by means of metropolitan infrastructures, networks and structuring facilities.

The metropolis of Lyon is freely administered under the conditions laid down by this book and by the non-contradictory provisions of Part I of this code, Titles II, III and IV of Book I and Books II and III of Part III thereof, and of the legislation in force relating to the department.
