Section 1: Obligation to qualify

Orders issued in application of article D. 212-72 determine the modular training procedures specific to each option. They may stipulate a particular order in which the training units are to be taken and make access to the practical training course conditional.

Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities (STAPS) with a major in “sports training” are exempt from the selection test, the pre-training course and the entire training programme. They sit the final exam directly.

Subject to the provisions of specific decrees, the selection test is organised in the form of one or more level assessment tests under the responsibility of the regional director of youth, sport and community life. If successful, the director will issue a certificate of achievement.

The pre-training course is organised under the responsibility of the regional director of youth, sport and community life. Its purpose is to assess the candidate’s technical and teaching abilities, and to check their leadership and safety skills, enabling them to take part in supervising the activity corresponding to the chosen option. Candidates who have passed the examination provided for in article A. 212-143 receive a training booklet issued by the regional director of youth, sport and community life in the place where the pre-training examination was held.

Training units are set up within the framework of structures approved by the Regional Director of Youth, Sport and the Voluntary Sector in accordance with the same procedures as those set out in article A. 212-136. The final examination comprises three tests. A general test (duration: specified in the specific decrees; coefficient 4) comprising: a) A written examination covering the technical aspects of the sport concerned (marked out of 20; coefficient 2); b) An oral examination relating to the economic or social environment of the sport concerned (marked out of 20; coefficient 2).
