Title II: Employer's obligations regarding use of the workplace

Workplaces subject to the provisions of Title I when they are built or converted are used in accordance with these provisions. In the event of a change of use, they shall be adapted to comply with the provisions governing the new use at the date of the adaptation work.

Buildings housing workplaces have structures and strength appropriate to their use.

Indoor and outdoor workplaces are laid out in such a way as to allow safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles.

The employer shall take all necessary steps to ensure that only workers authorised to do so have access to danger zones. Appropriate measures are taken to protect these workers.

Shafts, hatches and chutes are fenced off. Walkways, cantilevered floors, raised platforms and their means of access are constructed, installed or protected in such a way that workers required to use them are not exposed to falls.

Flying bridges or gangways for loading or unloading ships or boats are installed so as to form a rigid whole and are fitted with railings on both sides.

Tanks, basins and reservoirs are constructed, installed and protected in such a way as to ensure the safety of workers. Their installation or, failing that, their protective devices are such that they prevent workers from falling into them.

Access to and work on roofs made of fragile materials which do not offer sufficient strength are carried out in accordance with articles R. 4534-88, R. 4534-89 and R. 4534-93 applicable to building and civil engineering operations.
