Title I: Design and placing on the market of work equipment and means of protection

Personal protective equipment, to which the design and manufacturing obligations set out in Article L. 4311-1 apply, are devices or means intended to be worn or held by a person in order to protect them against one or more risks likely to threaten their health or safety.

The following are considered to be personal protective equipment, within the meaning of Article R. 4311-8: 1° An assembly consisting of several devices or means, joined together to protect a person against one or more risks likely to be incurred simultaneously; 2° A protective device or means joined together, in a separable or non-separable manner, with non-protective individual equipment, such as work clothing, worn or held by a person in…

Connecting systems used to connect personal protective equipment to a complementary external device, even when these connecting systems are not intended to be worn or held permanently by the user during exposure to the risks, are considered to be an integral part of the personal protective equipment.
