No person other than these employees or servants may, within the precincts of the markets, halls and ports, exercise the profession of weigher, measurer and gauge, on pain of confiscation of the instruments intended for measurement. Article L2224-27 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Those to whom the offices or functions of public weigher or measurer are entrusted are obliged to keep the markets, halls and ports equipped with the instruments necessary for the exercise of their functions and to have employees in sufficient numbers.
