Directors of children’s homes for the disabled must be at least twenty-five and no more than sixty-five years old.

Only applicants meeting the following conditions may be approved as directors of children’s homes for the disabled: 1° Have a general education at least equivalent to the “brevet des collèges”; 2° Have completed two years of medical, paramedical, social, teacher training or business studies; 3° Have worked for at least two years in a children’s establishment, or in comparable activities as defined by order of the Minister for Health.

Any person applying for approval to run a children’s home for the disabled must provide in support of their application : 1° A police record less than three months old ; 2° A copy of their diplomas and a list of their qualifications, with supporting documents; 3° A curriculum vitae indicating, in particular, where they have lived for the last ten years and the professions they have practised; 4° A…

On receipt of the application, the Director General of the Regional Health Agency will arrange for the applicant to be examined in a medical-psychological centre. When a director moves from one establishment to another, he or she must apply for approval for the new children’s home he or she intends to run. The Director General of the Regional Health Agency takes a decision on the basis of the file drawn up for the approval previously granted and after further investigation, if this is deemed useful, whether or not the change takes place within the region.

Where it appears that a director no longer fulfils the conditions for which he or she was approved, approval will be withdrawn by the Director General of the Regional Health Agency. Withdrawal of approval is notified by registered letter to the person concerned and to the operator of the children’s home.
