Title I: Chemical risks

The employer is responsible for the maintenance of personal protective equipment and work clothing. When maintenance is carried out outside the establishment, the head of the company responsible for transport and maintenance is informed of the possibility and nature of the contamination as well as its dangers in accordance with the prevention coordination rules provided for in article R. 4511-5. Contaminated clothing is transported in secure and identifiable containers.

For all activities where there is a risk of exposure to hazardous chemical agents, the employer shall provide appropriate hygiene measures to ensure that workers do not eat, drink or smoke in the work areas concerned.

Access to workplaces where hazardous chemical agents are used is restricted to persons whose duties so require. Appropriate signs must be posted in these areas to remind people that they are not allowed to enter without a work-related reason and that there is a risk of emissions hazardous to health, including accidental emissions.

During work likely to expose workers to noxious gases in confined spaces such as shafts, gas pipes, flues, cesspools, tanks or appliances of any kind, workers must be restrained or protected by another safety device.
