Shoring, struts and props may only be removed when effective protective measures have been taken against the risk of rockfall.
Shoring, struts and props may only be removed when effective protective measures have been taken against the risk of rockfall.
Undercutting may only be carried out using mechanically powered equipment and provided that it does not result in any danger to workers. When such work is carried out, measures must be taken to prevent access to the area in which the rockfall is likely to occur.
If a potentially explosive device is discovered, work in the vicinity is immediately halted until the competent authorities have removed the device.
In all underground structures, the risks of landslides or falling boulders are prevented, using methods appropriate to the height of the structure: 1° Either by means of a supported or suspended support and a lining appropriate to the nature of the ground; 2° Or by means of monitoring, probing and methodical purging of the facing and crown.
The walls of shafts and underground galleries, the roofs of the latter, as well as any consolidation work carried out or support systems put in place, are examined: 1° Upon resumption of each work shift, over the entire height of the shafts and over the entire length of the galleries; 2° After each blast, over a length of at least 50 metres behind the blast face. These examinations are carried…
When an underground shaft or gallery is to be lined with masonry or concrete, the elements of the support system are removed only as the work progresses and only insofar as, having regard to the stability of the ground through which the work is to be carried out, such removal cannot be detrimental to the safety of the workers. Similar precautions are taken when carrying out lateral felling and backfilling…
The quality of the air in underground galleries and shafts must be compatible with the health and safety of workers.
When the natural ventilation of a gallery being excavated is insufficient, the atmosphere is purified by means of a mechanical ventilation system. This ventilation system ensures a minimum air flow of twenty-five litres per second per man at the working face. The air introduced is taken far from any source of pollution.
In underground galleries being excavated where explosives are used, ventilation is carried out under the following conditions: 1° At least 200 litres of air per second per square metre of the largest section of the ventilated gallery are introduced at the working face by means of a mechanical ventilation system. The air introduced is taken far from any source of pollution; 2° After each blast, suction is applied as close…
Where internal combustion engines are used or noxious fumes are emitted, the minimum quantities of air to be introduced under articles R. 4534-44 and R. 4534-45 are increased so that air quality remains compatible with the health and safety of workers.
