Work platforms are fitted on the outside with: 1° Guardrails consisting of two rails, one one metre and the other 45 centimetres above the floor; 2° Skirting boards at least 15 centimetres high. However, these provisions do not prevent the installation of protective devices of at least equivalent effectiveness.
Work platform guardrails are securely fixed to the inside of the uprights.
Where work platforms rest on trestles or trestles, these should be no more than 2 metres apart. They must be rigid, with their feet carefully treaded and resting on sturdy support points. It is forbidden to raise them by makeshift means, to stack them one on top of the other or to place them on the floor of another scaffold or platform.
Gangway floors comply with the provisions relating to work platform floors.
Gangways and other installations on which people walk are fitted with guardrails at a height of 90 centimetres and skirting boards at least 15 centimetres high, or with any other protective device of at least equivalent effectiveness, at the edge of the void.
When footbridges are slippery due to ice, frost or snow, measures are taken to prevent slipping.
Staircases that are not fitted with permanent handrails are edged on the empty side with guardrails and skirting boards.
When workers are required to work on a roof where there is a risk of people or materials falling from a height of more than three metres, appropriate measures are taken to prevent any falls.
Scaffolding used to carry out work on roofs is fitted with guardrails consisting of elements that are joined together or spaced apart so that they cannot allow a human body to pass through. These guardrails are strong enough to effectively prevent a person who has lost his or her balance from falling to the ground.
