A temporary residence permit authorising the exercise of a professional activity in New Caledonia in compliance with locally applicable legislation and regulations may be issued to foreign nationals who come to New Caledonia to exercise a professional activity not subject to authorisation and who can prove that they can live on their own resources. It specifies the activity that the holder intends to pursue. .

Prior to the issue of residence permits, the High Commissioner of the Republic in New Caledonia consults the Government of New Caledonia under conditions laid down by decree in the Council of State.

The temporary residence permit and the multiannual residence permit issued in New Caledonia entitle the holder to reside solely within the territory of this collectivity.Residence permits issued outside New Caledonia do not confer the right to enter and reside in New Caledonia.
