Article 211-111 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code
Selective financial aid is awarded after completion for the production of long-term cinematographic works.
Selective financial aid is awarded after completion for the production of long-term cinematographic works.
Works are eligible for post-production support if they:1° Meet the general conditions set out in sub-section 2 of section 1 of this chapter;2° Are in original French or, if at least two different languages are used, are works in which French or a regional language in use in France is the language used most often. However, this condition does not apply in the case of fictional works taken from operas…
Cinematographic works that have received aid for audiovisual production are not eligible for post-production aid unless the conditions set out in 2° of article 211-53 are met.
Post-production grants are awarded on the basis of the nature of the subject and the characteristics, qualities and production conditions of the works.
Post-production grants are awarded on presentation of a distribution contract for the works, concluded with a view to their screening in cinemas. This contract must be concluded with a distribution company that has distributed at least three cinematographic works in the two years preceding the application for post-production grants.
The granting of aid is the subject of two decisions:1° A provisional decision accepting the principle of granting aid. In order to obtain this decision, the application must be submitted by the delegated production company within a timeframe that allows the relevant selective production aid committee to formulate its opinion before the cinematographic work is released for screening;2° A final allocation decision after the amount of aid has been determined.
The provisional decision is taken after consultation with the relevant Selective Production Grants Committee.
The final award decision is taken after setting the amount of aid, determined after the opinion of the costing committee mentioned in Article 211-151.
The amount of aid is set at a maximum of €100,000. This amount is increased to a maximum of €152,000 for a first or second film.
The aid is granted in the form of an advance. The aid is the subject of an agreement concluded with the production company. The agreement cannot be executed until the cinema exhibition licence has been issued.
