Selective financial aid is awarded to authors to help write the screenplay for a feature film, taking into account the nature of the subject, the characteristics and quality of the work, as well as the writing project and the intentions behind it.
Screenwriting grants are intended for projects presented in the form of a synopsis, developed synopsis or treatment.
To be eligible for screenwriting grants, authors must, depending on the case :1° When writing a first screenplay, provide evidence of having written, in the ten years preceding the year of application, either two short cinematographic works, or two audiovisual works of a duration of twenty-six minutes or more, or one audiovisual work of a duration of ninety minutes or more, or one short cinematographic work and one audiovisual work…
Screenwriting grants may also be awarded to the authors’ collaborators, who are responsible for helping with the writing process.
The same project cannot, for the same expenses, benefit from both scriptwriting grants and other grants awarded by the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée.
The granting of aid is the subject of two decisions:1° A provisional decision accepting the principle of granting aid;2° A definitive decision to grant aid once the amount of aid has been determined.
The provisional decision is taken on the advice of the Commission des aides à l’écriture et à la réécriture de scénario, after consultation with reading committees in accordance with the procedures set out in 1° of article 122-5.
