The dissent of the ascendants may also be recorded either by a letter whose signature is legalised and which is addressed to the civil registrar who is to celebrate the marriage, or by an act drawn up in the form provided for in Article 73, paragraph 2. A civil registrar who fails to require proof of the notification prescribed by Article 154 shall be sentenced to the fine provided for in the preceding article.

In the direct line, marriage is prohibited between all ascendants and descendants and relatives in the same line.

In collateral lines, marriage is prohibited, between brother and sister, between brothers and between sisters.

Marriage is prohibited between the uncle and the niece or nephew, and between the aunt and the nephew or niece.

However, the President of the Republic may, for serious reasons, lift the prohibitions laid down: 1° By Article 161 to marriages between relatives in the direct line where the person who created the alliance is deceased; 2° (Repealed); 3° By Article 163.
