All premises and facilities must comply with current planning, building, health and safety regulations, in particular the decree of 30 January 1978 on special building regulations for collectively managed leisure accommodation.
Associations, unions or federations, public or local authorities, social security bodies and, in general, all non-profit organisations may apply for approval for their family homes.
Applications for approval must be sent to the prefect of the département in which the holiday family home is located.
The prefect of the département in which the family holiday home is located may, under conditions defined by decree, after consulting the département’s tourist action commission, grant definitive approval or provisional approval for a probationary period of one year, renewable once.
Family holiday homes that meet the conditions listed in this sub-section may be approved in accordance with the procedures laid down by an order issued jointly by the ministers responsible for social affairs and tourism.
The Prefect may, at any time, carry out the necessary checks to verify that the conditions required for approval are still being met. If this is not the case, the Prefect may issue a warning or order the temporary or permanent withdrawal of approval after consulting the Departmental Commission for Tourist Activities. As part of its general interest function as a shelter, the refuge has a permanent indoor area open to the public. When the refuge is manned, this area includes at least one room where you can eat your own provisions. When the refuge is unmanned, this area also provides basic accommodation.
Camping is freely practised with the agreement of the person who has the use of the land, subject, where applicable, to the opposition of the owner. It may be practised on developed sites, under the conditions laid down in the provisions of this Title.
