Associate assistant candidates may sign a contract to work in a public health institution and are then recruited for a period of two years or four years. The total duration of their duties as associate assistant may not exceed six years.

Associate assistants made available, with their agreement, to an inter-hospital syndicate under the conditions set out in article R. 6152-502, may only carry out their duties under the direct responsibility of the practitioner in charge of the structure to which they are assigned. This practitioner fulfils the conditions of practice laid down by Book I of Part IV of this Code.

The file of an associate assistant, mentioned in article R. 6152-510, includes in particular documents proving that the person concerned has a good knowledge of the French language and is in compliance with the legislation relating to the residence and working conditions of foreigners in France. The Director General of the Regional Health Agency checks the validity of the diplomas and qualifications submitted for each recruitment.
