Title II: Sanitary equipment

The critical care activity consists of the management of patients who present or are likely to present one or more acute failures directly threatening the vital or functional prognosis and which may require the use of one or more methods of substitution.

Critical care is carried out in the following two ways: 1° Adult critical care; 2° Paediatric critical care.

The adult critical care modality comprises the following entries: 1° Intensive care and polyvalent intensive care, and specialised intensive care where applicable; 2° Derogatory polyvalent intensive care; 3° Intensive cardiology care; 4° Intensive vascular neurology care; 5° Intensive haematology care.

The paediatric critical care modality includes the following entries: 1° Referral intensive care and multi-purpose paediatric intensive care, and speciality intensive care where applicable; 2° Intensive care and multi-purpose paediatric intensive care, and speciality intensive care where applicable; 3° Derogatory multi-purpose paediatric intensive care; 4° Paediatric haematology intensive care.

I.- Holders of designation 1° under the adult critical care modality of article R. 6123-34-1 and holders of designation 1° or 2° under the paediatric critical care modality of article R. 6123-34-2 must set up a critical care technical platform comprising at least one intensive care unit and at least one contiguous polyvalent intensive care unit.
