Article D6124-418 of the French Public Health Code

The children’s section, for children over 18 or 24 months of age, is made up of single rooms accounting for at least two-fifths of the total number of beds, and rooms with between two and a maximum of four beds. Article D6124-419 of the French Public Health Code

Throughout the day, there is at least one nurse for every five beds in the children’s section and one nurse for every 5 cots in the infants’ section. Nurses or nursery nurses may provide care for children under the age of three. Up to a maximum of 20% of this staff may be made up of nursery assistants.

Article D6124-435 of the French Public Health Code

The rooms have a minimum volume of 30 cubic metres and a surface area of 10 square metres for each group of beds and cots. Except in exceptional cases determined by the establishment’s doctor, children are placed in bed close to their mothers. No room may have more than four beds and four cots. The distance between two groups of beds and cots must not be less than 0.80 metres.
