PART TWO: THE MUNICIPALITY

Agents who have the professional capacity under the conditions of Article D. 2223-35 are deemed to provide proof of professional training for the function they perform.

The thanatopractors who hold the national diploma provided for in Article L. 2223-45 have the professional capacity to perform conservation care. Only thanatopractors who can prove that they have undergone the vaccination mentioned in article L. 3111-4-1 of the Public Health Code or exemption from or contraindication to this vaccination as specified in article R. 3111-4-2 may carry out this conservation care.

Persons who carry out their duties without being in direct contact with families and without personally participating in the conclusion or performance of any of the funeral services listed in Article L. 2223-19 do not have to meet minimum professional competence requirements under this sub-paragraph.

Regies, companies, associations and their establishments must send the prefect to whom they are applying for the authorisation provided for in Article L. 2223-23: -for each of their agents referred to in article D. 2223-35, a copy of the professional training certificate; -for each of their directors, managers, funeral advisers and masters of ceremony, subject to Articles D. 2223-55-7 and D. 2223-55-13, any document attesting to the possession of the…

The managers and agents of the régies, companies, associations and their establishments authorised in accordance with Article L. 2223-23 must provide proof, as appropriate, of holding the diploma mentioned in article D. 2223-55-2 or of the professional training provided for in this subparagraph.

Vocational training is paid for financially by employers in accordance with the terms defined in Chapter I of Title III of Book III of Part Six of the Legislative Part of the Labour Code. Agents who perform one of the funeral services listed in Article L. 2223-19 must provide proof of sixteen hours’ professional training. This training covers funeral legislation and regulations, health and safety, and the psychology and sociology of mourning.

Agents who coordinate the various ceremonies that take place from committal to burial or cremation of a deceased person must prove that they hold the diploma mentioned in article D. 2223-55-2, issued under the conditions defined in subparagraph 5 of this sub-section.

Agents who welcome and provide information to families must provide proof of forty hours’ professional training. This training covers funeral legislation and regulations as well as health and safety (sixteen hours); the psychology and sociology of bereavement (eight hours); funeral protocol, the practices and symbolism of the various funeral rites including cremation (sixteen hours).

Agents who determine directly with the family the organisation and conditions of the funeral service must prove that they hold the diploma mentioned in article D. 2223-55-2, issued under the conditions defined in subparagraph 5 of this subsection.
