Third-country nationals who are family members of a European Union citizen meeting the conditions set out in 1° or 2° of article L. 233-1, have the right to reside on French territory for more than three months. The same applies to third-country nationals, spouses or dependent direct descendants accompanying or joining a European Union citizen satisfying the conditions set out in 3° of article L. 233-1.

Foreign nationals mentioned in article L. 200-5 may be granted the right to reside throughout French territory for a period of more than three months under the same conditions as in Article L. 233-2.

European Union citizens wishing to work in France are still required to hold a residence permit for the duration of any transitional measures provided for in the accession treaty of the country of which they are nationals, unless the treaty stipulates otherwise.
