The beneficiaries of direct subsidies are, on the one hand, the companies that produced the works and, on the other, the companies that distribute them to cinemas.
To qualify for direct allowances, delegated production companies and distribution companies must be established in France and set up as a commercial company.
For broadcasting approval and payment of direct subsidies, the delegated production company or companies and the distribution company or companies must jointly submit the application file before the first commercial showing of the work or programme in cinemas.
The amount of direct allocations is calculated once a year by applying a flat rate of 57 euro cents per paid admission, corresponding to the screening of the work or programme, made during the calendar year preceding the one during which this calculation is made, as soon as the total number of admissions made during this calendar year reaches the threshold of 1,500.Admissions are taken into account for a period…
Direct allocations are paid during the first half of each year:1° To delegated production companies, 70% of the amount. Where there is more than one delegated production company, payment is made on the basis of the agreements between them;2° To distribution companies, 30% of the amount. Selective financial aid is awarded to operators of cinemas classified as art cinemas and receiving art cinema aid to encourage the programming of short-lived cinematographic works.
Aid for the programming of short-lived cinematographic works is awarded to cinematographic entertainment establishments that organise a number of cinematographic entertainment screenings per cinema equal to or greater than four hundred per year on average during the reference period defined in article 231-13.
