Selective financial aid is awarded to support programming and events in cinemas.
Selective financial aid is awarded to operators of cinematographic entertainment establishments to reward the programming and promotion of art house cinematographic works within the meaning of articles D. 210-3 to D. 210-5 of the Code du cinéma et de l’image animée.
Art et essai grants are awarded after cinemas have been classified as art et essai establishments and, where appropriate, awarded labels.Cinemas classified as art et essai establishments are divided into two groups, comprising several categories, in consideration of their geographical location.The establishment is classified and the grant awarded according to the conditions and calculations set out for each group and category.
I. – The first group comprises the following two categories of cinemas:1° Category A: cinemas located in central municipalities with a population of 100,000 or more and in urban units with a population of 200,000 or more;2° Category B: cinemas located :a) either in central municipalities with a population of less than 100,000 and in urban units with a population of 200,000 or more;b) or in central municipalities with a…

For the application of the multiplying factors, only cinemas in cinemas with an average of at least 32 weeks of activity per year during the reference period are taken into account.By way of derogation from the previous paragraph, in the event of the opening of new cinemas, cinemas in activity during the 26 weeks preceding the end of the reference period are taken into account.
If the activity of one or more cinemas is transferred to a new cinema located in the same urban area and operated by the same operator during the reference period, the classification is carried out and the aid is granted taking into account the cumulative activity of the old cinema and the new cinema during the reference period.
The bonus coefficient is applied in the light of the efforts made by exhibitors to promote quality arthouse programming, train and develop audience loyalty, and organise events around their arthouse programming, in relation to the material resources at their disposal and the cultural offer available in the area of influence of the establishment in question.
