When a patient requires specialised medical or surgical care within a very short timeframe and his or her vital or functional prognosis is at risk, he or she is referred directly, by or in liaison with the SAMU, to the technical support centre best suited to his or her condition.

Any establishment referred to in article R. 6123-32-2 which has signed the agreement referred to in this article must inform the public that it provides ongoing care for patients in the field in which it specialises.

The regional health plan specifies the specialised activities involving direct patient care and provides for their location within the health region. An establishment’s participation in such direct care is included in the multiannual contract for objectives and resources mentioned in article L. 6114-1. This contract sets out the terms and conditions of this participation.
