The French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons carries out a preliminary examination, pursuant to article L. 531-42, within eight days of the application being submitted.
When, after the preliminary examination, the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons decides to continue examining the application, it shall inform the competent prefect without delay.

The powers devolved by the provisions of this chapter to the panel of judges or its chairman shall be exercised by the magistrate competent, pursuant to Article L. 532-6, to rule on appeals lodged against decisions of the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons taken pursuant to Articles L. 531-24 to L. 531-31 or L. 531-32 to L. 531-35.
An appeal lodged by an asylum seeker must state the applicant’s surname, first names, date and place of birth, nationality and place of residence. It shall mention the subject of the application and a statement of the factual and legal circumstances invoked in support of it. It must be drawn up in French.
