The provisions of this section are without prejudice to those of Articles L. 171-1 and L. 173-1 of the French Construction and Housing Code relating to the thermal characteristics of buildings other than dwellings.
Buildings intended to house workplaces are designed and constructed in such a way as to be able to withstand, as a whole and in each of their components, the combined effect of their weight, extreme climatic loads and the maximum overloads corresponding to their type of use. They comply with the anti-seismic rules laid down, where applicable, by the provisions in force.
Buildings and their equipment are designed and constructed in such a way that glazed surfaces above or on the roof can be cleaned without danger to the workers carrying out the work and to those present in and around the building. Wherever possible, collective protection solutions are chosen.
The floors of the premises are free of bumps, holes or dangerous inclines. They are fixed, stable and non-slip.
The surfaces of floors, walls and ceilings are designed so that they can be cleaned or repaired to achieve appropriate hygiene conditions.
Elevated or roof-mounted openings must be designed in such a way that, when open, they do not constitute a hazard for workers.
Transparent or translucent walls are marked at eye level. They are made of safety materials or are arranged in such a way that workers cannot be injured if the walls shatter.
Doors and gates comply with the characteristics defined in articles R. 4224-9 et seq. Their dimensions and characteristics are determined according to the nature and use of the rooms or enclosures they serve, taking into account the provisions of Chapter VI relating to fire prevention and evacuation.
Automatic doors and gates are fitted with a safety system that immediately stops any opening or closing movement if this movement could cause harm to a person. They are designed so that they can be opened manually, unless they open automatically in the event of a power failure. The layout and dimensions of traffic routes, including stairways and fixed ladders, are determined taking into account the provisions of Chapter VI relating to fire prevention and evacuation. Traffic routes are designed in such a way that: 1° pedestrians or vehicles can use them easily and safely, in accordance with their purpose; 2° workers employed near traffic routes are not exposed to any danger.
