Ventilation by natural ventilation, provided exclusively by the opening of windows or other openings giving direct access to the outside, is authorised when the volume per occupant is equal to or greater than : 1° 15 cubic metres for offices and premises where light physical work is performed; 2° 24 cubic metres for other premises.

Rooms reserved for traffic and rooms that are only occupied occasionally may be ventilated via adjacent rooms with non-specific pollution to which they open.
The air sent after recycling into premises with non-specific pollution is filtered. The recycled air is not taken into account when calculating the minimum fresh air flow rate provided for in Article R. 4222-6. In the event of a breakdown in the purification or filtration system, recycling is stopped.
It is forbidden to send polluted air from a room with specific pollution, after recycling it in a room with non-specific pollution.
In premises with specific pollution, the average concentrations of total and respirable dust in the atmosphere inhaled by a worker, assessed over an eight-hour period, must not exceed 4 and 0.9 milligrams per cubic metre of air respectively.
For each room with specific pollution, ventilation is provided and its flow rate determined according to the nature and quantity of the pollutants and, where applicable, the quantity of heat to be removed, without the minimum fresh air flow rate being less than the values set in article R. 4222-6.
