Part Six: Health facilities and services

The Haut Comité hospitalo-universitaire instituted in article L. 6142-15 may be consulted on any issue relating to the university hospital missions of hospitals and university teaching centres, particularly in the field of evaluating the quality of training.

Matters are referred to the committee by the ministers responsible for higher education and health.

The chairman of the committee, chosen from among the State Councillors, is appointed by order of the ministers responsible for higher education and health for a non-renewable term of four years.

In addition to its chairman, the committee comprises sixteen members: 1° Three directors of medical training and research units appointed by the Conference of Directors of Medical Training and Research Units and University Presidents – Doctors; 2° Two chairmen of university hospital medical boards appointed by the conference of university hospital medical board chairmen; 3° One hospital centre medical committee chairman appointed by the conference of hospital centre medical committee…

The term of office of each Committee member is two years. It may be renewed once.

The Committee may hear any qualified person called upon by its Chairman to provide an opinion or expertise on any matter on which it is consulted.

A report on the committee’s work is submitted to the ministers for higher education and health.

The duties of the Chairman and members of the Committee are free of charge. Their travel expenses and those of experts called in for consultation shall be reimbursed under the conditions laid down by the regulations in force for civil servants.

The secretariat of the committee is provided alternately every two years by the departments of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health.
