Periodic certification of healthcare professionals is a procedure designed to guarantee: 1° the maintenance of skills; 2° the quality of professional practices; 3° the updating and level of knowledge.
I.- As part of the certification defined in article L. 4022-1, healthcare professionals must establish, over a period of six years, that they have carried out a minimum programme of actions aimed at: 1° Updating their knowledge and skills; 2° Reinforcing the quality of their professional practices; 3° Improving their relationship with their patients; 4° Taking better account of their personal health. The professions of doctor, dental surgeon, midwife, pharmacist, nurse, masseur-physiotherapist and chiropodist are required to undergo periodic certification.

The council referred to in article L. 4022-5 is chaired by a qualified person appointed by joint order of the Minister for Health and the Minister for Higher Education. The composition of this council and its operating procedures are set by decree.
Periodic certification standards define, for each profession or speciality, the actions mentioned in I of article L. 4022-2.

The actions carried out by healthcare professionals as part of their obligation to undergo periodic certification are recorded in an individual account, the content, terms of use and access to which are defined by decree in the Conseil d’Etat. Individual accounts are managed by an administrative authority designated by decree.
