The mayor administers communal affairs insofar as the intervention of the municipal council is not required. He prepares the deliberations of the municipal council. He alone is responsible for their execution.
The mayor exercises the attributions falling under the administration of the State which are entrusted to him by law or regulations as well as those referred to him by the decisions of the representative of the State in the department. The mayor, in an emergency, may, without the prior authorisation of the municipal council, bring and defend possessory actions and perform any legal act necessary to preserve the rights of the municipality or to avoid the consequences resulting from the expiry of time limits. He reports to the municipal council at its next meeting.
